How to get a Nevada driver's license
This is how the Nevada DMV describes a first license for drivers under 18, based on the Nevada Driver's Handbook (March 2024) and the DMV's teen driver pages. Check the DMV website for current fees and requirements before you go.
Pass the written knowledge test
Take the 25-question test online through KnowTo Drive Nevada or in person at a DMV office. You need 20 correct answers. A passing result is valid for one year.
Get your instruction permit
At 15 and a half or older, apply at a DMV office with a parent or guardian, proof of identity and residency, and a Certification of Attendance (DMV 301) signed by your school. You'll take a vision test and get a paper permit to start driving.
Finish driver's education and log your hours
Complete an approved classroom or online course and at least 50 hours of supervised driving, 10 of them at night, logged in the RoadReady app or on form DLD-130. If no course is available within 30 miles and you can't take one online, you log 100 hours instead.
Pass the road test and get your license
At 16, after at least 6 months with your permit and no at-fault crashes or violations in that time, schedule the road test and bring your driving log and a parent or guardian. After you pass, you get an interim license, and the plastic card comes by mail.
